Visceral Games hit with small number of layoffs

Visceral Games, the studio behind the Dead Space series, Battlefield Hardline and an unannounced Star Wars title, has been hit with a small number of layoffs. EA is working to ensure a smooth transition for the employees affected and they may be moved to other parts of the company.

In a statement sent to Gamespot, an EA representative said: “We made a small staffing change in our Visceral studio today to support the needs of the studio's two current development priorities: content for Battlefield Hardline Premium and an unannounced Star Wars project. We are working to ensure the smoothest transition possible for the impacted employees.”

The unannounced Star Wars project has been known about for some time now, with Uncharted series writer, Amy Hennig, said to be working on it after leaving Naughty Dog some time ago.

During a quarterly earnings call, EA did note that it was pleased with Battlefield Hardline's commercial success so this staffing change doesn't appear to be due to that. It is possible that projects elsewhere in the company need some extra hands.

KitGuru Says: It is always a shame to see layoffs, particularly at decent studios. Hopefully all of the devs affected by this land on their feet soon enough.
