Intel Core i9-14900HX with 5.8GHz boost speed appears in benchmark

Intel has officially announced that the new 55W Core-HX devices for the 14th Generation Core mobile series are on their way, but exact specifications elude us. However, benchmark leaks are already starting to pop up and it would seem that Core i9-14900HX laptop buyers can expect boost clock speeds up to 5.8GHz.

According to the Geekbench entry spotted by Benchleaks, the CPU will have 24 cores and 32 threads, matching the configuration of the i9-14900K. However, the mobile variant's default TDP is 55W, while the desktop equivalent is 125W. The Geekbench 6 test was run on an Acer Predator with an RTX 4080 Laptop GPU and 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory.

Throughout the test, the CPU achieved a maximum frequency of 5763MHz, according to the JSON data produced by the benchmark. As a result, the boost clock may theoretically reach 5.8GHz. This is a 200MHz increase over the i9-13980HX and a 400MHz increase over the i9-13900HX. As far as we know, there's no i9-14980HX, making the 14900HX the new flagship.

A simple comparison with publicly accessible data suggests that the i9-14900HX may become one of Geekbench's single-core and multi-core top scorers. The CPU scored 2998 points in single-thread, matching the performance of the 13th Gen i9 desktop chips. In the multi-thread test, the score wasn't on par with the Core 13th Gen i9 K-series, but it was still above the Core i7 desktop chips of the same generation.

The Intel Core 14th Gen HX mobile series is expected to be released early next year and should feature at least four models: the Core i9-14900HX, i7-14750HX, i7-14700HX, and i5-14650HX.
