Bloober Team discusses Silent Hill 2 Remake’s success

When it was first announced, there were fears that the Silent Hill 2 Remake from Bloober Team would not be able to do the PS2 survival horror classic justice. Surprisingly, not only has the remake been highly-praised, but managed to sell over 1 million copies in just a week or so. Following this success, Bloober Team have now spoken on their future plans/hopes for the studio.

In an interview conducted by IGN, Bloober Team’s director and designer Wojciech Piejko hinted at the direction the studio will take following the success of Silent Hill 2, saying “I think we are always open” to new possibilities, adding “If we like the opportunity, we'll take it. There are opportunities that you have to seize. Like Silent Hill 2, you can remake the legend. So yeah, I do believe that everything's possible.”

In a similar interview conducted by Gamespot, director/producer Jacek Zieba spoke further on Bloober’s future plans, stating “We want to be a horror company. We want to find our niche, and we think we found our niche, so now we just–let's evolve with it. […] And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically in a way, like with [2016's] Layers of Fear, people in the studio were like, ‘Okay, we made some shitty games before, but we [can] evolve.”

Most Bloober Team games released in the past have had a certain level of jank which prevented them from hitting the upper echelons of the horror genre. With Silent Hill 2 however, it seems as though the team have finally found their footing.
