Microsoft has finally revealed that Cortana will be heading over to iOS and Android in addition to Windows Phone this year. The Halo inspired virtual assistant was first announced last year and was later implemented in to the Windows 10 operating system.
This is part of Microsoft's device and services initiative, bringing its apps to wherever its customers are, even if that is on other platforms. Joe Belfiore, VP of operating systems at Microsoft announced the virtual assistant app earlier today, alongside Microsoft's new Windows 10 phone companion app.

The Windows 10 companion app is set up to allow users to sync up their Windows apps with an iPhone or Android device. Windows Phone users will not need this as the functionality will be built in to the Windows 10 OS update. This means that users who own a Windows 10 PC but don't want to buy in to the whole ecosystem, can still sync up their mobile devices well with their files at home.
In all, Microsoft is trying to ensure that Windows 10 will work well and sync up nicely with whatever devices you own.
