Cloud Imperium Games, the studio behind the highly anticipated space sim, Star Citizen, has ended up with a sizeable leak on its hands, with 48GB worth of game assets ending up on the drives of those who don't work for the studio.
One of the game's community managers was unfortunate enough to have a hand in the leak after posting a screenshot with a partial URL shown. Some managed to guess the rest of the link and landed on one of Cloud Imperium's storage servers, where they managed to nab 48GB worth of game assets, containing pieces of the game not yet shown off to the public.

The assets were all still a work in progress as Star Citizen isn't due to wrap up development until next year sometime. The leak isn't widespread, you won't be able to hop on to a torrent site and suddenly download 48GB worth of unfinished Star Citizen. However, the few that do have the files have been loading them up in CryEngine and taking a look around.
The link used to obtain the work in progress assets has since been shut down by Cloud Imperium Games and so far, it looks like those who do have the assets have not yet shared them so everything appears to be relatively contained, meaning the leak may not spread far at all.

The currently released modules are pretty damn impressive. Naturally, the game is incredibly laggy, even on high-end PCs (I have dual 970s, i7, 8GB RAM, SSD).
They recently released a training module which is very cool, especially when you use joysticks instead of a keyboard and mouse.

I have backed it since the early days and love it having a Freelancer MAX,Cutlass Black and both a Redeemer and Reliant with LTI very impressed with what I have seen so far and the quality of what has been released is in many cases higher than the finished product of some well known so called AAA games.
I’m glad CR took the stance of not compromising the game by trying to make it run on much weaker consoles and it blows a whole through some Developers of console games excuse that they wouldn’t get enough funding if their games were PC Exclusives “cough CDPR cough” though in CDPR defense they say they are aiming to fix that mistake via patches we’ll just have to wait and see.
You might want to up your RAM to 16GB, 8GB is the minimum and SLI/Crosfire hasn’t been implemented yet though I’m having no problems on my Rig( i5 [email protected],32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400Mhz,2 R9 290’s Watercooled (Powercolor PCS+OC) and 2 3TB Seagate Barracudu Sata 3 HD’s ) and I’m running it in 2560×1440 with everything maxxed out.
A bit too overkill for a PC, 32GB is not even required by today’s standards…. 16GB is kinda on the borderline of overkill, even for 64bit games out on the market at the moment, even Witcher 3 doesn’t use over 8GB including GDDR.
So the guy is fine with 8GB.
Also a tip for people new to PC gaming and high end specs, make sure your RAM is NOT in ganged mode, as that is designed to work best with single threaded applications, unganged mode is best for gaming.
Crossfire has been around since AC v9.2. All you have to do is enable it by creating a user.cfg file in the same directory as your system.cfg file. In the user.cfg file you have to add the line: “r_multiGPU=1” for Crossfire, “r_multiGPU=2” for SLI.
You may also need to put “con_restricted = 0” above it for it to work.

Name ONE game that utilizes that much RAM?
I am running a i5 4670K, a single 290x, and 16gb ram and I dont have any issues. I am not overclocking but if my G15 performance monitor is to be believed, I am only using around 28% of my 16gb of ram (so 8gb should be fine), but my processor is using up to 90% of all 4 cores. I built this system exclusively to play star citizen alpha modules with decent performance. When the game is release I will build a much better system. But I didnt see the need to build anything overthe $1500 mark at this point.
It looks impressive. Maybe I’ll give it a go someday, but it’s just not my type of game. has anyone tried it on multi-monitor setups?
Something’s… odd with your PC. When I tried Star Citizen on the “free week” they had a while back I was able to get SLI working and on the max settings it’d let me go, my minimum FPS was well above 40. And that was using stock 780Ms in SLI, far less two 970s.
Unless you specifically mean the modules don’t support SLI and that the base game does. That would make sense.
The performance optimization is usually a step done at the end because you might not want to work on optimizing something that could be modified/scrapped afterwards.
It would be strange if performance stay as is in the released version
Considering the game’s category and how much money they already collected, I wonder if there will be someone left to buy the game afterwards.
Of course there will be, but I would expect low “sales” since most of those who really want it probably already have it.
Star Citizen is going to be a little beyond the definition of “today’s standards”.
I’m may up it when the game comes out. I don’t play that many games on this, so it’s a wasted investment as I can run high-end games really well on ultra already.
I just lent my friend my second 970, and I’m not noticing any difference in performance, so… hmm.. 😛

Don’t just look at the memory actively used by your games, but also the page usage. If you’re paging in a game, then you’re lagging/degrading your experience.
It’s not the fact that a single game uses that much ram. It’s the fact that most gamers will not only have their game open, but have multiple monitors with web browsers, voice communication, and other resources also running. Let’s not forget that many OEM installations are eating 1-2gb of ram, then add an average of 256mb-512mb RAM for AV and other basic services. Yes, most games won’t use 8gb of RAM, but most systems will.
I run steady at about 15gb RAM used without any games open, and about 30GB used on average when streaming my gaming. 16gb is indeed the standard for gamers currently, and 32gb for power users.
Well running Gta5, malwarebytes, Steam, and background processes on Windows 8.1 I’m not using my full 8GB. Maybe if I was one of these clowns who keeps 50 Chrome Windows open I might need more. I have never been in a situation where I jave needed mpre than 8GB. 16GB seems to be the right spot for future proofing. 32GB seems unneccessary for someone who doesn’t video edit.
I will be waiting for the game to be fully released. Not only as my system has no chance with running it, I will get a new rig when it comes out.
My problem is the rampant stretch goal and further fund chasing that has been going on. When I first heard of it I told all of my friends, I made RL friends sit through long arse videos pitching the game. I was hype as fuck to say the least, however they had reached their goal and I am not a great fan of the Early Access or Crowdfunding situation so stayed my hand.
As development continued and features kept being piled on whilst selling in game items for obscene amounts of real world money with nothing but concept art for show, my EVE online cynicism took over. It seemed too good to be true.
I desperately want this game to be the one the fans and devs are imagining, however I won’t be at all surprised if it ends up being vaporware or simply garbage.
To reiterate. I want this game, badly, I want it to be a super badass space sim with awesome world wide persistent universe. I don’t want it to fail. I just can’t bring myself to believe they can deliver.
Hopefully I can eat my words, buy the full product when it hits market and nerd out hard, but I’m not being suckered into what is frequently referred to as “Chris’ hookers and blow fund.”
Star Citizen is shown to hit about 12 gigs, with regular background programs running (specifically the hangar causes the most trouble). Not 16, but you don’t really buy ram sticks in sets of 4gb sticks as often, it is usually in pairs of 2; unless you use one stick.
So the argument is 8gb or upgrading to 16. Anything above 16gb is obviously not just for gaming; otherwise you are just overcompensating.
