Richard Carriere is Senior Vice President for CyberLink, a successful Taiwanese company that finds itself operating in a very fluid market. As Microsoft changes its playback strategy again, removing Media Player from Windows 10, so Cyberlink has new opportunities. We caught up with Richard to ask about the challenges and opportunities that Microsoft's decision will create.
Whether as a pre-installation on a system or as a separate boxed product, CyberLink has sold an impressive 2 billion copies of its PowerDVD software. Before moving onto Media Player, we asked Richard about CyberLink's position in the market today.
“CyberLink has been around for almost 20 years”, he explained. “It all started with PowerDVD and it's now number one in the market by sales volume. It's also the most complete media player”.
“Since our inception we have extended our expertise into video and photo editing, in addition to bringing several digital media utility software tools to the market”, said Richard. “Today, our number one product still remains PowerDVD, with version 15 just launched last month, closely followed by our Director family of creative software. These products retail between £50 and £240 in the UK”.
