Sony CEO says we we will see Apple Music at WWDC

We have been expecting an Apple Music streaming service announcement for some time now and even though negotiations with certain record labels slowed things down a bit, all signs still pointed towards a reveal at Apple's annual World Wide Developer Conference this month. Now, it seems that Sony's CEO has jumped the gun, having revealed that the announcement is heading to us this week.

Sony has been the source of many leaks in recent months thanks to the massive hack that the company suffered but it looks like the company just can't stop itself. In an interview at the Midem Music Industry Festival,  Sony's CEO confirmed that one of Apple's WWDC reveals would be its music streaming service, according to VentureBeat.

Apparently Apple's entry to the music streaming market will be an “amazing moment” for the music industry due to the purely subscription based business model, rather than relying on advertisement revenue like Spotify. “Spotify has never really advertised because it’s never been profitable. My guess is that Apple will promote this like crazy and I think that will have a halo effect on the streaming business.”

WWDC kicks off later today at 6PM UK time, so we only really have to wait a few hours to know if this information is accurate. We will likely also see the next versions of OS X and iOS at the conference. Rumored announcements include a new Apple TV and maybe even the 12-inch iPad Pro that we have been hearing about for years.

KitGuru Says: It could be argued that Apple's mainstream success has largely derived from its efforts in the music industry, first with the iPod, then with iTunes and now it is tackling streaming. That said, Spotify is already an established service with millions of users so it may not be an easy market for Apple to crack.
