G.Skill developing dual-channel DDR4 kits for Intel Z170 ‘Skylake’ platforms

G.Skill, one of the world’s leading suppliers of enthusiast-class memory modules, at Computex introduced its new Trident Z-series DDR4 memory solutions that will be aimed at high-performance systems. The new kits will address not only Intel X99 high-end desktop platform, but also enthusiast-class Intel Z170 platforms featuring “Skylake” processors.

The new G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 memory modules feature brand-new aggressively-styled heat-spreaders made of anodized aluminium with customized bars of different colours. The modules use black custom multi-layer printed circuit boards designed to ensure maximum overclocking potential and stability.

G.Skill does not reveal specifications of its Trident Z memory solutions just yet, but claims that they will be available as dual-channel and quad-channel kits starting July, 2015. Traditionally, dual-channel memory kits will boast higher “out-of-box” clock-rates compared to quad-channel sets of modules. Keeping in mind that G.Skill’s fastest quad-channel DDR4 memory solutions operate at 3.66GHz, expect dual-channel Trident Z to hit something like 3.80GHz and, perhaps, even higher clock-rates.

Pricing of G.Skill’s Trident Z memory solutions remains to be seen. Since they are based on DDR4 DRAM ICs and belong to premium product segment, do not expect them to be affordable.

KitGuru Says: The main intrigue about G.Skill’s Trident Z memory modules is the maximum clock-rate they will support out-of-box. Ironically, this may not depend entirely on G.Skill, but on capabilities of Intel’s memory controller integrated into “Skylake-S” processors.
