Tamriel Online is a mod aiming to bring co-op to Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has enjoyed a very long life on the PC, which is largely down to the insane amount of mod support the game has received since its launch. However, there is one thing missing from Skyrim- your friends. Right now, The Elder Scrolls is a single-player only title, with no way to explore the world with a friend fighting beside you.

However, Tamriel Online is looking to change that. Right now, all we know about the mod is that rather than turning Skyrim in to an MMO style affair, it is aiming to turn it in to more of a co-op experience.

As you can see from the video, everything is still a work in progress. Right now, you can see what armour or weapons your friend has equipped but there can be some delay between each character's reactions. Additionally, while you can walk around the world together, you can't watch each other fight or quest together just yet, although these are features being worked on.

Right now, the mod creator wants people to help test his work in order to figure out what needs improving the most and squash out any bugs. There is a Reddit threat containing the download links as well should you want to try this mod out, which you can find, HERE.

KitGuru Says: There have been more than a few occasions where I have wished I could quest through Skyrim with another person in the world with me. Hopefully this mod can eventually bring that dream to life.

  1. I always thought they should just take skyrim and make it work online coop rather then taking mmo and trying to fit skyrim into it

  2. THe problem is mod armor. They are gonna need some kind of placeholder armor automatically put in place so that you don’t see your friend walking around naked if you don’t have his armor mod.

  3. Or the host has to upload all of their mods first, and then it downloads them all on to the clients’ PCs (kinda like Source, I guess)

  4. For sure, that’s where ESO went wrong. What they did was take an MMO, WOW style, with all of those sorts of features like banks and static enemy groups, etc and put an Elder Scrolls UI on it. It was such a bad idea. Basically, they ended up with a confused and bad MMO, because they took the worst MMO features and paired them with the worst Elder Scrolls features. What they should have done is taken Skyrim and made it an MMO (changing the environments and quests etc), if they wanted an MMO. With Skyrim features like player housing, a proper questing system designed for multiple people like TOR, and all of the best MMO stuff and the best Skyrim stuff.

More likely they’d see a collection of yellow exclamation boxes if I remember correctly… if there’s a missing texture and such like.

But this seems like the smallest technical hurdle, considering they could just say “not compatible with other mods” if worst came to worst.

You’d think someone would want to monetise this kind of obvious and clearly good idea. I’m looking at you Bethesda. O_O

Why this isn’t already a thing and why they went full on MMO is beyond m… oh, it was the subscription/in game store money wasn’t it? Of course it was. No money to be made in good co-op.
