Final Fantasy 7 is finally getting a proper remake

Late last year at Sony's PlayStation Experience event, Square Enix got on stage to announce that Final Fantasy 7 would be coming to the PS4, plain old Final Fantasy 7. The crowd was not impressed, which was probably quite embarrassing for the company but now it looks like Square Enix has learnt its lesson and is finally giving fans exactly what they have been asking for over the last few years- a proper Final Fantasy 7 HD remake.

Last night at Sony's E3 press conference, it was announced that Final Fantasy 7 would be getting the remake treatment and that it would be coming ‘first to PlayStation 4'. Judging from the wording, we can assume that this is a timed exclusive and may end up on other platforms later on.

As you can see, the trailer is already looking pretty damn good so hopefully the final product will live up to expectations.

Rumours of a Final Fantasy 7 remake have been floating around for years thanks to a Square Enix tech demo released a few years back, showing off what a Final Fantasy 7 remake would potentially look like.

The game has some key developers on-board with Yoshinori Kitase signed on as producer, Kazushige Nojima as the ‘scenario designer' and Tetsuya Nomura as the director for the project. There is currently no release date but it likely won't be out until 2016.

KitGuru Says: I missed out on Final Fantasy 7 back in the day because I never got to own a PS1. I played a little of the Steam version and while I enjoyed what I played, it felt a little too dated to really get in to it. This remake could fix that problem right up, it will also bring a nice nostalgia trip for fans of the game and series as a whole.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

GG Squaresoft, you just made the PS4 win the console war, oh and you broke the internet. xD

  3. if they do this right it could be the best remake ever made, it already has a huge fanbase. The only ways they could destroy it are by changing the story too much and charging DLC prices for the hidden things in the game like Yuffie or Vincent……

    Time will tell.

  5. Last few years? Wow, you sir are out of touch with the fanbase. They have been asking for this since PS3 hit the shelves. However, it doesn’t matter. Its finally happening and lets just hope it doesn’t take them 9+ years to do it like its taking them to do FFXV

  6. They already did that when it wasn’t locked to 720 like Xbone….

PC wins anything in that “war”, if you’d call it that. It wins in performance in every category. Plus its finally getting more respect from the devs who refused to develop for it. Maybe they finally see how awesome they can push their games on a platform such as a PC.

  7. Important question: Who’s doing the music?

Why bring pc into it? I get that PC is good, I have a gaming PC myself, but I said “console war”. I.e. the competition between two or more games consoles.

Nobuo Uematsu has already composed the music. They would only recreate the music using actual orchestras and better synths.

  10. I LITERALLY broke down in tears of joy when this hit the screen.
