Xbox Games with Gold is getting beefed up from next month

Two years ago, Microsoft announced Games with Gold, the companies Xbox competitor to Sony's PlayStation Plus membership, which saw two PlayStation 3 games given away to subscribers every month, they were often pretty good games as well so the service became pretty popular.

So far  for Xbox One owners, Games with Gold hasn't been a super regular affair and getting two games in one month was not guaranteed in the same way it was on the Xbox 360. However, from July onwards, Xbox One owners can expect a steady stream of two free games a month as long as they have an Xbox Live Gold membership.

The first two games to be on the new and improved roster are Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which will be downloadable from the 1st of July until the 16th. Then on the 16th of July Xbox One owners can grab So Many Me, until the 15th of August.

Xbox 360 owners are not getting left out though, if you are still on last gen, you can grab Plants VS Zombies and Gears of War 3 next month.

KitGuru Says: Games with Gold is a pretty decent value add for Xbox owners. Now that the Xbox One is almost two years old, it has built up a fairly decent library of games, which is why Microsoft can now afford to consistently give away two free games a month. Black Flag is a good start so it will be interesting to see what is next.

While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
