Windows 10 is finally coming out at the end of this month after around nine months of public testing. However, while the Windows Insider beta users will be able to upgrade to the release version on day one, Microsoft's roll out plan means that others will be left waiting.
It is usually a fairly smart move to wait a little bit to see how a new OS performs for everyone else but there are plenty who would rather get it over and done with. Today, Microsoft detailed its roll out plan for Windows 10, with those currently testing the OS getting the update on the 29th of July, the rest of those registered for the upgrade will receive it in waves.
You will be notified when your update is ready either way, this roll out announcement is more just to let people know that they may not get the update on day one, although Microsoft will be updating users in pretty large waves.
In addition to all of that, enterprise users and schools that buy licenses in bulk will get their keys on the 1st of August. You can read Microsoft's full blog post on the matter, HERE.

KitGuru Says: How many of you are planning to upgrade to Windows 10 this summer? Are any of you holding off until later this year?
I will upgrade my w7pro, testing w10 in VirtualBox for some time,
can’t wait to have proper scaling for my 4k monitor.
I’ve already been using Windows 10 Enterprise Preview, at first there were many bugs, and my laptop stopped working suddenly several times. But since the build 10159 everything has been going well and I’m sure to upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as it is released officially.
The only reason I’m excited for the actual release is because it’s going to force developers to finally support windows 10. Do you know how many times something hasn’t worked and the only reason support or other people gave me is,” Windows 10 isn’t even released yet! Of course it won’t work!”
I just want them to have to own up to their laziness and fix things…
I’ve tested and removed due to a few issues that prevented me from getting work done that I get paid for. Having it removed will it prevent a upgrade on the 29th?
sorry MS…….i m happy wid Windows 7…….just hate tiled icon
You’re going to be missing out on a LOT of upgrades.
Like wat dx 12 games ….. dx12 games will run perfectly on dx11 untill tiled resources come into picture .
Btw MS is playing mental game …
1.They r giving win10 for free just to make people familier with their tiled icon so people will atract towards windows phone
2. Most of the people still living with xp nd win7 only a fraction of people uses win8……(coz people just hate tiled icon)
Nd they r facing loss coz people not upgrading even if oem supply win8 people downgrade it to win7.
3. Whole pc hardware indusrty is facing decline in demand coz people r happy with win7.
So to boost pc hardware sales too win10 is free.
4. Who said win10 is free for life
…microsoft is making fool everyone.
Its a subscription model means for 2-3 years it will be free nd when people will be used to they will introduce halfyearly or yearly subscription fees.
Microsoft is famous for its evil tactics for establishing monopoly nd this time also no diffetence
It’s like trying to reason with a 12 year old…
Alright let’s go:
1- It’s free because they want people to switch to their new OS, stop using old, outdated and no longer supported OS’s, not to mention that they have other means of income with the new appstore and the like. Also the tiles are optional.
2- “most of the people”, while I doubt that, let’s assume they are: I doubt the reason is because of tiled icons, Windows 8 got a bad wrap because of the loss of the start menu – something they explicitly brought back in Windows 10. Win10 is basically all the bonuses of 8/8.1 with a good interface. No tiles required.
3- I’m not sure where you come up with these ideas, but what does hardware have anything to do with being happy with a single OS? Parts are often bought individually, I think it’s more likely that anyone buying a new computer is going to buy a new laptop instead of a new desktop, and anyone using a desktop is more likely to have built their own or modified it with individually bought parts.
4- Windows 10 is free for everyone that already owns an activation key for the first year. That’s it, no gimmicks. There’s no subscription model, they already disproved that, and it’s unlikely that will ever change.
5- Microsoft is infamous for evil tactics? What monopoly? There are literally free alternatives to Windows.
I’m not sure what you have against tiled icons, but they aren’t even a requirement on Windows 10, you can choose not to use them completely. There are plenty of under-the-hood upgrades from Windows 7 to 8/8.1, particularly in file structure support (BTRFS is now supported on Windows 10), boot speed, and other general speed upgrades and the like that would be too numerous to list out. Also, yes, you’ll be missing out on the bonuses that DX12 brings, but that isn’t all of it. When it omes to videogames, windows 10 ALREADY ran many of them better than 7 when it was first released. I noticed a good 4-5 FPS boost across the board (which isn’t much, but I didn’t have good hardware at the time) when I upgraded. Windows 10 brings all of those upgrades with a familiar interface that, just like every other version of Windows, you can customize with just a little know-how.
Stop assuming there’s some conspiracy going on, it doesn’t make any sense. They’re a company, and they don’t make money by screwing their users over.
hey dont angry ….actually i bought notebook with win8 preinstalled and it was horrible so i simply downgraded to win7(extra spending)…
tiled icon hv different opinions ,,, some loves while many hates that.
if win 10 has option of win7 like UI means no tiled icon and start menu back then its completely fine …no prob
about subscription model….yess i still think MS will give free subscription till they release new OS coz its right way to force people to upgrade OS. in product base model if i hv win7 then i can use that for 100 years they cant force me to upgrade coz its a product which i bought so now its my property,,,,,,,,,but in subscription model after 4-5 years when they will release new OS they can simply introduce monthly or yearly payment plan “TO FORCE PEOPLE FOR NEW OS”
no matter wat they say i’ll never believe that they will give win 10 free for life ,,like earlier version of windows.
btw can u please send an email to MS and ask- win 10 subscription will be free for life or not ?….. THEY WILL NOT SAY “YES”. thats all
