Although Nintendo confirmed earlier this year that it had begun development of its next-generation video game console code-named NX, it did not reveal any actual details about the forthcoming product. Apparently, the only reason why Nintendo disclosed the fact of development was to tell its customers that it will not exit the market of dedicated game consoles.
“Normally, we wouldn’t have taken that step of telling people we are working on the next system, but we wanted people to know we remain committed to the dedicated game device business,” said Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of sales at Nintendo of America, in an interview with Examiner.
It is not a secret that announcement of a new game console helps to sell existing hardware and software. Keeping in mind that sales of Nintendo Wii U are very slow, the company has clearly failed to make its current system popular, it made a great sense for the company to pre-announce its NX without revealing any details.
It is still unclear when Nintendo plans to release its next-gen system. It is logical to assume that the console will be released in 2016, around four years after Wii U. However, Nintendo does not want to confirm any timeframes. However, it claims that its customers were enthusiastic about the new console.
“Judging by our stock price, the [reaction] was very enthusiastic, but our game fans were also very enthusiastic,” said Mr. Moffitt. “People also respected the fact that we remain committed to making rich, deep experiences that they can enjoy in their living room.”

KitGuru Says: If sales of Wii U do not pick up this year and in 2016 the company releases its NX system, then Wii U will be one of the worst selling game consoles in history.
Yeah we’ll see what rich deep experiences you create. Lot of fluff and promises as usual. If it’s weak and casual orientated again then good luck, you’ll need it.
If they focus again only on casual gaming and little kids, they will loose big time. Tablets and smartphones have replaced that market.
Sorry sega has the worst systems and then their is xboxone and os4 that have produced nothing good in the way of story
Buy a Wii u before you talk about it I own two an ouya ps3 ps4 xbox360 xboxone.
Wii u has better games better story cleaner graffix
Pstv also
I don’t want Nintendo to be fps gaming only like the others that’s what a pc is for
Tablets and phones have micro clones a bunch of crappy indi games
How about Xbox and PS promised a bunch and delivered crap
Exactly.
Please Nintendo, don’t end up like Sega or worse yet, Apple and only make crappy 99 cent iOS touch screen games like Angry Birds and Clash of Clams!
I’m worried that Nintendo is going down the same path as Sega did almost 20 years ago!
GameCube = Sega Master System
Wii = Sega Genesis/CD/32X
Wii U = Sega Saturn
NX = Sega Dreamcast
I hope not!
You went full retard, never go full retard.
I am enjoying the Wii U..mind you it’s the first Nintendo system I’ve owned since the original. I’ve downloaded classics from previous systems I missed, played the best Wii games because of the backwards compatability, and there are still some really good titles on the way ( I am looking forward to Mario Maker and Xenoblade chronicles)….I do wish they would beef up the Virtual Console titles available…
Apple doesn’t make those games. Indie developers make those games.
That being said, I really hope Nintendo doesn’t fall to Indie developing status.
Nintendo needs to wake up and compete with Sony and Microsoft. Kids are not stupid like they seem to believe. I mean my 7 year old has a PS3 and can navigate it without my help. Kids don’t wanna play childish games no more, or at least childish looking games. NX needs more power, more advanced games.
Nobody cares, get a life and friends and stop wasting our tax money on videos games and bitching about them
Your worried about video games yet there are starving kids in Africa that are dying.
