Snapdragon 820 specs leak ahead of next week’s announcement

Just before next week's Qualcomm event, at which the company is expected to reveal its new flagship mobile chip, the Snapdragon 820, we have had a leak, apparently showing off the specs of the new SoC and giving us a rough idea of performance ahead of time.

The announcement event is set to take place on the 11th of August, just ahead of Samsung's own event, at which the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be revealed. The leak comes from analyst, Pan Jiutang, posting some early slides on Chinese social network, Weibo.

So far Qualcomm has refused to comment on the leaks, which is common for pretty much any company. The slides show the Snapdragon 820 to be up to 35 per cent faster than the current Snapdragon 810, with availability potentially landing before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, the leak does not detail anything to do with power or heat management, which was a pretty big problem with the Snapdragon 810 and turned quite a few customers off of several flagship devices this year. LG and Samsung were the two biggest companies to opt out of using the chip this year.

Despite the evidence though, Qualcomm has been adamant that the Snapdragon 810 doesn't actually have any issues. Either way, lets hope that the Snapdragon 820 brings along the improvements we need.

KitGuru Says: The Snapdragon 810 was a powerful processor, unfortunately it had some pretty evident heat issues. It looks like we will find out next week if Qualcomm has managed to improve in that area.
