Apple is recalling some iPhone 6 Plus models due to bad camera

Apple has announced that it will be recalling some of its iPhone 6 Plus models after a camera defect was discovered in a particular batch of units. The company revealed its replacement plan in an updated support page, which explains that the reason for the recall is a bad iSight camera.

The models affected were sold anywhere between September 2014 and January 2015, so those who bought a new iPhone around launch or for Christmas last year may be able to trade it in for a brand new one. It is worth noting that not all units are affected though, the numbers are limited.

“Apple has determined that, in a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus devices, the iSight camera has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry. The affected units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold primarily between September 2014 and January 2015. If your iPhone 6 Plus is producing blurry photos and falls into the eligible serial number range, Apple will replace your device's iSight camera free of charge.”

Apple didn't say exactly how many people were affected but if you wish to find out, all you have to do is head over to the product recall page, type in your iPhone serial number and Apple will let you know if you are eligible for a replacement. Should you be eligible, exchanges can be handed at an Apple Store or via Apple Technical Support.

Those who received their handsets through a wireless carrier won't be affected. This only seems to affect those that bought their iPhone unlocked.

KitGuru Says: It would be nice if Apple gave us an estimation as to how many devices could be affected here. Either way, if you happened to buy an iPhone 6 Plus between last September and January of this year, then it is worth checking to see if you're part of the recall.
