Second Ashley Madison data dump reveals CEO’s emails

In response to claims from the company, that Ashley Madison customer data revealed earlier this week might not be real, the hackers responsible have released almost twice as much data again, this leak containing emails from the company's CEO and founder, Noel Biderman. The dump also contained source code for the site's back end and it's applications, further compromising Ashley Madison's security.

Earlier this week, some 10GB of customer records from the site were leaked, with the hackers claiming responsibility suggesting that it was a two pronged attack on cheaters, and Ashley Madison for charging to delete customer accounts and then failing to do so. This second dump is much larger however and contains thousands of company emails, making it hard to deny that this isn't taken directly from Ashley Madison servers.

The fallout from this reveal could be even greater than that of the original, which has already caused a myriad of problems. Pro-family campaigners in the US have been found to have accounts on the site, as well as high-ranking government officials, lawyers and other influential individuals.

While there has been little to indicate as such from the hackers themselves, Brian Krebs, who first reported the hack just over a month ago, said he believes this was an inside job. Several sources from the company that previously spoke to him reference concerns that someone may have been leaking data to outside sources.

Avid Life Media, Ashley Madison's parent company, has suspended plans for an IPO since the hack was revealed. It was set to be valued at just over a billion dollars, but whether that will be the case or if it will even be able to continue to operate in the future remains to be seen.

KitGuru Says: I don't think Ashley Madison bounces back from this. Unless it rebuilds from the ground up and even then, who would trust it with their account details now?

  1. What kind of muppet, especially a public figure, decides to use a website that is specifically and unabashedly dedicated to cheating on your spouse and/or sexual promiscuity. It’s going to become public knowledge at some point and it’s going to be bad.

Just cop off with the secretary like your forbears and keep it simple.

  2. This is ridiculously funny.

  3. This day and age even the latter is a poor plan. The basic of it is if you are a high-ranking official, just … don’t do it with randoms. That’s just a sacrifice you make when you become a high-ranking official – it’s really not that complicated. You’d think they would learn their lesson by now with all the officials being forced out of their positions due to dick-pic scandals and such

  4. Dick-pic scandals are fairly mundane, I hardly think someone should lose their job over a consenting picture like that. It should be a point of embarrassment, rather than a critical failure of state. Non-consensual spamming of it should however be a more serious matter with potentially criminal consequences.

  5. Never, ever, EVER trust someone who tells you they’ll keep your secret. I learned this in elementary school.

Anyone who gets exposed as cheaters through this ordeal gets what they deserve.

  6. I don’t think they should lose their job over this anyway if it has nothing to do with the work they’re doing. It’s not like all of a sudden now people are saying “Oh my god… do(es) the government/politicians/lawyers actually lie to us..? *gasp*”

I don’t really care who people have sex with so long as it’s not my wife.

  7. There are only two ways to stop a secret from getting out. One is to never tell anyone, period. Two is to not do secretive things.

  8. Exactly. The other way I’ve heard it said is, “The only way for two people to keep a secret is for one of them to kill the other.”

  9. It is entertaining. I don’t get all these people who are hating on the people who had their data revealed or the ones who did the revealing in it, short of the ones actually having their lives influenced over it. I don’t really care that much myself as it has no impact on my life and the people that are feeling the heat are already screwed, not much more we can do to them.

  10. I agree for the most part. There’s really no reason to freak out over some dicks. Blame puritans!

That said, I think it’s fairly obvious that in the current cultural climate it is very risky to show promiscuity. I imagine once again blame the puritans, but what’re ya gonna do? A political figure should be aware of that.

  12. My ctradar(conspiracy theory radar) is going into overdrive on this whole thing. So far, we’re hearing about blackmail for no cash (wow, wotta pile of manure.) Someone with a vested interest is driving this hack. Now we need to know who. Could be the left-wing to take pressure off Planned Parenthood (look at who has been implicated so far) or the right-wing (stop someone from making money off something they consider a sin, even if they have to throw a few of their own under the tank battalion.) These two are just examples of people who have something to gain from Ashley Madison’s demise! The word of the day is: Qui Bono (who benefits!?)

Jewish website with jewish CEO. Will be fun reading his emails and how he talks to his tribe mates and how they rule everything, (I love diversity. Like Google/Apple is harping about. But why no diversity in the board room? Why is over 60% of Apples board tribe members and they are not forced to diversify? Guess its ok to be racist as long as you are the right kind of racist. Never mention the J word)

Depends of their culture. Some cultures can be trusted. The culture we are talking about here can’t be trusted unless you are one of them.
I have worked in IT security 30 years. Having a business without independent security auditing is incompetent. Its not hard patching and encrypting stuff. (like Sonys hack where Sony had a 5 year unpatched SSH)
