We have been hearing about Cortana's eventual arrival on Android for months now. While an early version of the digital assistant for Android leaked just ahead of the Windows 10 launch last month, you can now get your hands on the app officially, as Microsoft has launched the public beta.
Cortana on Android will be able to perform most of the basic digital assistant functions, like answering your random questions, setting alarms or reminders and answering messages. Though you won't be able to activate the app by voice, as you can on Windows 10 and Windows Phone.
Those on Android will be able to replace Google Now as the default digital assistant though, which means you can activate it with the home button shortcut. The app is in open beta for Android for the time being, so Microsoft will be continuing to update and improve things over time.
At some point, Cortana is also due to arrive on iOS, making the app a key part of Microsoft's plan to get people on other operating systems using its own apps and services. You can sign up for the Cortana Android beta, HERE.

Is it a US exclusive? I’m told its incompatible with my Nexus 5.
Pretty sure it’s a US exclusive, yep.
Didn’t find it at all useful on Windows 10, turned off within a week.
That’s unfortunate, it’s a bit of a gimmick on my desktop but I use Google Now all the time so was hoping for an improvement. Thanks anyway.
Well, for now at least, no need to despair too much I’m sure.
