Prices of Intel “Skylake” processors for desktops revealed

A web-site has published the finalized prices of Intel Corp.’s “Skylake-S” processors for desktops. The new central processing units will cost about the same amount of money as existing chips, the world’s largest maker of microprocessors will not increase prices of its products.

The flagship Intel Core i7-6700K (four cores with Hyper-Threading, 4.0GHz frequency, 4.20GHz maximum Turbo Boost clock-rate, 8MB last-level cache, a dual-channel DDR3L/DDR4 memory controller with 1600MHz or 2133MHz support, 95W TDP, Intel HD Graphics integrated graphics core as well as LGA1151 packaging) will cost $316 in 1000-units quantities. The slightly slower Core i5-6600K (four cores, 3.50GHz frequency, 3.90GHz maximum Turbo Boost frequency, 6MB last-level cache, dual-channel DDR3/DDR4 memory controller with 1600MHz or 2133MHz support, 95W TDP, Intel HD Graphics integrated graphics core, LGA1151 packaging) will be priced at $225, reports BenchLife.

Other quad-core Core i5 and Core i7 central processing units will cost from $170 to $282, depending on specifications and performance.

KitGuru Says: Intel traditionally sells its processors at similar price-points as previous-generation offerings. With “Skylake”, the chipmaker will not make any exceptions: the chips will be priced at the same levels as “Haswell” products.

I Think for an economical gaming PC, even the 6500 will serve you well.

  2. which one has a soldered heat spreader?

  3. Just like AMD’s APUs: none of them. Skylake-E will have it. No small-die chip will have it anymore until a new technique is discovered. The dies are melting and the solder doesn’t adhere well to the chips where they don’t melt. This is why both companies have abandoned it.

    Hmm do I ditch my i7 3770k setup for a 6700k….

  5. I wonder how much in Gbp incoming scalping

  6. Well, if you want to buy new RAM (min DDR3L, not compatible with DDR3) and mobo as well. Basically almost a whole system for this new platform.
Just OC it and wait for kaby lake, who knows DDR4’s price plunge down

  7. no get a new gpu if its not a gtx 680 or never

  8. or get a low end xeon that works too

  9. that’s not the reason. the high end alloy they use for the solder is reserved for their HEDT procs. that’s why Skylake-E (like Haswell-E) will use it instead of their cheaper/inferior TIM.

  10. Well, at least 20% VAT on top, plus a margin to cover for FX Rate fluctuation. There’s no scalping, just the government wanting its 20%. Bear in mind that most buyers in USA have to pay state sales tax, which is not included in the listed price, and it’s almost 8%

from what i worked out john “JUST” OVER £200 QUID FOR THE 6700K

  13. these are the prices for the Iris Pro versions also ?

  14. its expected to drop a bit around september

  15. Considering the 4770k and 4790k both go for over £250 no way will the 6700k be just over £200

  16. Sayyed Mohsin Ali

Well this can be good news for those who will get custom pc in 2k16 as price of i7 4790k will come down and anyone can purchase it

  17. Same prices as the Haswell equivalents I expect. So the 6400 and maybe 6500 about £140 like the 4440/4460, the 6600K about £190 like the 4690K. The 6400 looks very unattractive with its slow clock making it in some ways a backwards step from Haswell and its price proximity to the 6500, so I wonder if we will see that mainly in pre-built PCs.

  18. Probably no real need unless you do stuff that really taxes the processor. From Sandy Bridge or earlier Skylake looks more worthwhile, but from Ivy Bridge or Haswell I don’t think it’s a big deal.

  19. I might wait for Kaby Lake now. I have sort of got used to waiting……. 🙂

  20. No, there’s actual testimony from both Intel and AMD about adherence and melting problems. http://www.techpowerup.com/197051/amd-a10-7700k-kaveri-de-lidded.html

Neither one is doing it, but cost isn’t the reason.

  21. No Skylake CPU with Iris Pro graphics confirmed so far. Probably Kaby Lake will have it but noone knows yet.

  22. they are confirmed..i’ve read that today.

  23. Tell me, where. Noone said they won’t be produced but also it wasn’t confirmed they will. For now, the only desktop CPU with Iris Pro are the 5675C and 5775C which are (due to the gpu) quite expensive.
The answer to your first question – no, these aren’t prices for Iris Pro Skylakes since at least for this year no Iris Pro in desktops except Broadwell’s is planned.

  24. is there an approximated % improve number when it comes 2500K (NO OC) to 6700K (Same)?.. Because that’s what i have and i wanted to improve it the hell out so it kind of lasted…hella long

Uses: GAMING, Adobe Photoshop+Illustrator CS6 (or CC) and Adobe Premiere Pro CC (With a patch to use my GTX970’s power due to some weird official bug from Adobe not using it well “Officially”), perhaps other stuff i can’t think of now.

    My actual PC is a:

CPU: Intel i5 2500K (NO OC!)
    MB: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO GEN3
    RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz (I know, Skyalke is DDR4 but would upgrade to 16/32GB)

    GPU: You know it already

    SSD: Samsung EVO 840 250GB (with a backup HDD WD 1TB 7200RPM)
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits

Note: I WON’T OC at all due to FEAR (of burning the PC Tower out), so don’t force me ^^;;..

Upgrading would be to use the 6700K’s 4Ghz along with the HyperThreading (Maybe it helps with games someday) and USB 3.1 etc etc… However, if there’s no use for HyperThreading or reviews says/recommends something else i’d consider the 6600K, though that’s 0.5Ghz less..).. But it has to have a Z170 Motherboard!..2015 Edition!.

Sorry for sounding a bit dramatic buuuut when it comes to technology and money, you better make sure to NOT fail…Somehow…

  25. So the 2 main high ones will be how much?

  26. Charles Charalambous

    I have a 980TI XD

  27. That the i7 or the i5

  28. That’s some good news.
That’s the CPU that’s on my plan to build wishlist when I can afford to upgrade it.

  29. 20% is absurd. In Australia our GST is only 10%.

  30. there are 2 asus z170 mobos that work with 1.5 and 1.65 volts standard high power ddr3’s.

  31. your good tghen

  32. ht helps video editing and more ram too
