Launched all the way back in 2008 alongside GTA IV, the Rockstar Games Social Club offered “a new website that [extends] your experience of Grand Theft Auto IV and all future Rockstar Games titles”. It has since been used for the likes of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. It seems however that the service is being revamped ahead of the official announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI – now being known as ‘Rockstar Games Platform’.
As discovered by ResetEra user ‘dex3108’, Rockstar recently updated their Social Club website, removing all references to the previous name and replacing it with the ‘Rockstar Games Platform’. The only remaining reference to the social club is now in the website’s URL.
While no reason has been given for this change, it is quite clearly being done in anticipation of the upcoming GTA VI, which is set to finally be unveiled in early December.
As of right now, the functionality of the website remains as it always has, letting players track their stats; share screenshots; create crews and more.
With this rebranding however, it will be interesting to see what new functionality the studio has planned for the ‘Rockstar Games Platform’ when GTA VI releases – hopefully sometime next year.
