The Assassin's Creed games have changed a lot over the years, moving from smaller open-world action games to massive RPGs with map sizes to match. The last ‘classic' game in the series, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, didn't get a great reception at launch due to franchise fatigue but if you now find yourself yearning for a return to the series' old formula, then you can now grab the game for free on PC.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate was set in 1800s London, starring twin assassins Jacob and Evie Frye in a pursuit to stop the templars. There's a nice mix of historical events with Ubisoft's tried and true fictional twists. Personally, it is one of my favourites of the older titles in the series, but I am a tad biased being British myself. With modern PC hardware and plenty of patches, the game runs much better now than it did at launch.
From no until the 6th of December, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is free to claim on Ubisoft Connect, so you can do it through the app or via the web. Once you've claimed it, the game will be yours to keep forever, so you can jump in whenever you please. If it turns out that you hate the story or setting, well at least you didn't lose any money trying it out, just a bit of bandwidth and storage space.
