All Rainbow Six Siege DLC maps will be free

It looks like some publishers are starting to catch on as Ubisoft has announced that all future maps for Rainbow Six Siege will be free, rather than packaged and sold as DLC map packs. We also know exactly how many maps will be available for the multiplayer game at launch.

Those who play Rainbow Six Siege on day one will have access to eleven maps in total, with more planned to release down the line to keep players coming back for more. This was all confirmed in an interview with PC Gamer: “At launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology. In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free. We want players to stay with us for the long-term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage.”

Free maps is a trend that seems to be catching on. While Evolve wasn't exactly popular due to its DLC strategy, Turtle Rock Studios did promise that all future maps would be free. 343 Industries also has free maps planned for Halo 5: Guardians. Titanfall sold maps to start off with but eventually EA made the season pass free for everyone.

Rainbow Six Siege will launch in December, after being pushed back a bit from October. It will land on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 but those who want to try it out early can play the beta, which is set to begin on the 24th of September.
