MSI starts to sell its top-of-the-range Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium

Although makers of mainboards tend to start selling their high-end products right after developers of microprocessors introduce their new central processing units, some unique products take longer time to develop. MicroStar International on Friday said that its top-of-the-range Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium Edition mainboard – which features an distinctive silver colour – is finally available in the U.K.

The MSI Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium Edition is a unique platform for overclockers, which features a matchless 16-phase digital voltage regulator module designed to provide very clean power to Intel Core “Skylake” central processing units. The VRM is comprised of brand new inductors, which MSI calls “titanium chokes”, that promise to withstand higher temperatures, enable better overclocking and endure a longer lifecycle.

The Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium mainboard features four DDR4 DIMM slots, four PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots for graphics cards or solid-state drives, two M.2 slots (with PCIe 3.0 x4 interface) for high-performance SSDs that can be used in RAID 0 mode for extreme performance, two SATA Express set of connectors, advanced AudioBoost3 7.1-channel audio with EMI-shielded circuitry, USB 3.1 and so on.

Since the Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium Edition is MSI’s top-of-the-range Intel Z170-based solution, it offers all the features and functions found on other platforms from the Z170A Gaming family.

The mainboard has already made itself a name as an extremely good overclocking platform for processors and memory. For example, Toppc, a professional overclocker from Taiwan, has managed to overclock an engineering sample of the Intel Core i7-6700K processor to whopping 6801.63MHz with all four cores and Hyper-Threading Technology active. Toppc has also managed to push two DDR4 memory modules in dual-channel mode all the way to 4605MHz.

Right now, the MSI Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium Edition is available from Overclockers UK, Scan and Dabs. In the U.K. the ultimate Intel Z170 mainboard from MicroStar International costs from £227 to £229.99. Next week the mainboard will also become available at Amazon, eBuyer, Novatech and other.

KitGuru Says: Without any doubts, the Z170A Xpower Gaming Titanium Edition from MSI is an expensive platform. However, keeping in mind overclocking capabilities and overclocking potential of the motherboard as well as its rich expansion capabilities, the price seems to be completely justified.
