WildStar has officially made the jump to free to play

Earlier this year, Carbine Studios announced that it would be switching up the business model for its 2014 MMORPG, WildStar. The studio planned to switch over to the free to play model to help reach a wider audience and today, those changes were officially implemented. There is even a fancy new trailer to celebrate the occasion

The free to play version of WildStar has been in beta for a month or two and now, the game is available to everyone, leaving the previous subscription model behind for good. In addition to this, a lot of changes have been made to the mechanics and systems in WildStar.

Alongside the transition comes the WildStar: Reloaded update, which contains all of the new gameplay changes while also adding in new content and in-game events.

Most of the changes found in WildStar focus on quality of life improvements, which aim to make the experience better for players and keep them interested in the game. Unfortunately, the game isn't on Steam, despite previous rumours to the contrary, so to get WildStar, you will need to head over to the official site, create an account and download the official client.

KitGuru Says: WildStar is now open to everyone, so it will be interesting to see if this can help boost the player-base numbers back up. The game had a pretty swift downturn last year, with previous content updates being cancelled and staff at Carbine Studios getting cut. Did any of you play WildStar at launch? Are you planning on trying it now that it is free to play?

  1. I played it on launch.. wasn’t really in to it.. didn’t have any sort of wow factor (pun intended) to make me want to keep playing. All a bit same old. And the humour wasn’t really my cup of tea either.

  2. I also played at launch and really its the lore. WoW was amazing cause we all knew the lore from warcraft 1-3. It was amazing being able to visit sites that were just tiny 3d models in a RTS game. Walking through Ironforge or ogrimmar made you feel like you really entered a fantasy world. Then there was fighting against or along side some epic characters you knew like Arthas, Thrall or Illidan. WoW started getting stale after Wrath of the Lich King cause it really did wrap up all the big names after that expansion.

good game, I hope that it lives, but F2P transition is bugged with all sorts of problems right now. If you want to try it seriously, give them a week.
