Microsoft recently released its digital assistant, Cortana, for Android as a standalone app. However, Cyanogen has some bigger plans in mind, mulling over the possibility of deeply integrating Cortana with Cyanogen OS in order to access functions similar to those you would find on Cortana for Windows Phone or Siri on iOS.
While most of Cortana's features are available on the Android app, there are some things that it can't do due to not being integrated with the OS as closely as it would be with Windows.
Talking about potential Cortana integration with Cyanogen OS, the company CEO, Kirt McMaster said in an interview with International Business Times: “When Apple launched Apple Music at WWDC, they showed the Siri integration with Apple Music. Siri doesn't power Spotify like that so we can do all these kind of things with for example, integration of Microsoft's Cortana into the OS enabling natural language to power Spotify and other services.”
It seems that voice control over third-party apps would be the main feature here. Microsoft and Cyanogen already have some business together, with Cyanogen OS coming bundled with Microsoft apps so deeper Cortana integration isn't totally out of the realm of possibility.
