Google has been working on its own self-driving car for quite some time now. In-fact, the vehicles recently made it out in to the public for testing. However, despite all of this effort that the company is putting in to its own self-driving car, Google doesn't actually want to make cars for a wider market.
Speaking at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany, Philip Justus, one of Google's European Managing Directors, explained that the company hopes to bring its self-driving technology to other established car makers in the auto industry: “That is not something we could do alone. Google also does not intend to become a car manufacturer.”
The quote was caught by Reuters, which notes that other car manufacturers, including BMW, Audi and Merceds-Benz have been going on their own separate hiring sprees, searching for software experts to develop their own self-driving technology.
There is even talk of Apple getting more involved with the auto-industry so clearly this is becoming a popular area for development.

KitGuru Says: Google has been working on its own self-driving car technology since 2009. However, it makes sense for the company to license out its technology to established car manufacturers, rather than trying to directly compete with them.
