Apparently Apple is ramping up its efforts to create its own electric car. The company has been rumoured to be working on its own car for a while now and the latest stirrings seem to point towards Apple dedicating employees and resources to the project in order to have it ready by 2019.
According to sources familiar with Apple's plans, the project is codenamed ‘Titan'. The Wall Street Journal has spoken to people that have said employees from across the company have been re-assigned, beefing up the original 600-person team working on it. Apparently there are around 1800 people now involved with the project.
Apple has been hiring numerous people from within the auto-industry. Initially the company had apparently planned to launch its car in 2020 but things seem to be steaming ahead of schedule. Apple's plans do include a self-driving car, though that won't be what we see in 2019.
Additionally, the project is still four years away from the projected launch date, a lot could change between now and then so things could change.

KitGuru Says: Following on from Google's progress when it comes to self-driving cars, Apple is now also trying to break in to the industry. It will be interesting to see what it comes up with, particularly with no prior experience in the area.
