Tesla is set to launch its Model X 4×4 later today, webcasting the entire show for viewers around the world and releasing more information on the vehicle than ever before. Company founder Elon Musk made the announcement himself earlier today, linking through to a page for the vehicle that teases a final view of the launch model, as well as its fancy gullwing doors.

We've been shown an image of the Model X before, and a video appeared earlier this year of someone driving one in the wild, presumably for testing purposes, though Musk's wording suggests that the version that will be shown off at the launch event – and consequently the one that those with reservations will eventually receive – will be a little different.
Confirmed features of the new vehicle include an option for the “ludicrous mode,” seen in the Model S, which helps boost its standing-start acceleration to “ludicrous” levels, and Musk has said that with improvements to on board software, ‘range anxiety' will be a thing of the past with the Model X, suggesting it will go further than ever before.
Being a 4×4, it should also be the most rugged and offroad capable electric car Tesla has ever made, so the post-launch tests from reviewers will be interesting to keep an eye on.
The Model X launch event begins at 8PM, presumably at some U.S. time, so expect to stay up late for this one if you're from further afield.

KitGuru Says: Although interesting, the Model X will still be well over $100,000 at launch, so don't expect these to go mainstream. For that, we need the Model 3.
