After a couple of delays, Homeworld 3 is finally coming out. The classic space RTS returned to the forefront back in 2015 with a pair of remasters for the original game and a true sequel has been in the works ever since. Now with the game's release date approaching, the developers have unveiled the PC system requirements, alongside other graphical features.
Homeworld 3 will support ray tracing, but only for shadows, so we won't see features like RT reflections or AO. The game will support HDR though, so if you have a HDR-capable monitor, you'll see a wider range of colours and brighter highlights to make the image pop. The game will also support DLSS 3 and FSR 2 and will be optimised for Intel Arc graphics cards as well.
Here are the PC system requirements:
Minimum (Low/1080p):
- CPU: Core i5-8600K or Ryzen 5 3600X.
- RAM: 12GB
- GPU: GTX 1060, R9 480 or Arc A380 (6GB VRAM)
Recommended (Medium/1080p):
- CPU: Core i7-11700K or Ryzen 5 5600X
- RAM: 16GB
- GPU: RTX 2070, RX 5700 or Arc A580
For 1440p at high graphics settings, you'll want a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB of RAM and an RTX 2070 Super, RX 6600 XT or Arc A770 graphics card. For 4K at max settings, you'll want to bump your CPU and GPU up to a Core i7-13700K or Ryzen 9 7900X and an RTX 3080 or RX 6900 XT.
Naturally, if you're looking to enable ray tracing, you will need a more recent graphics card anyway. To play with RT and low settings at 1080p, you'll want an RTX 3060 or RX 6650 XT, for RT with high settings at 1440p you'll want an RTX 3080 or RX 6900XT and if you want to play at 4K with max settings, including ray-tracing, you'll want an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX.
Homeworld 3 launches in February 2024 on Steam.
