That cancelled Darth Maul game may get a revival

Last year, footage of an awesome looking Darth Maul game surfaced on the web, causing many to wonder why it never saw the light of day. Now, the developer behind the title, Red Fly Studios, is planning on re-pitching the game in order to get the project revived. The concept of the game was to provide an Arkham Asylum-like experience, starring Darth Maul, his double-bladed lightsaber and a slew of force powers.

According to Red Fly Studios' own Dan Borth in a Reddit AMA, the studio is actually working on a ‘next-gen' demo of the Darth Maul project, in hopes that EA will pick it up for revival: “We are currently working on a full next gen demo of all things Maul to show to the powers that be. It's been a lot of work on our off time. We need to approach EA with a demo that will impress them. I think we have that or are close to it. Still it is completely not up to us.”

When Disney took over the Star Wars franchise, Lucas Arts was shut down and EA bought the rights to make Star Wars games for the next ten years- which is why Red Fly needs to re-pitch its idea to the publisher. The untitled Darth Maul game was in full production for a release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2010, unfortunately, Lucas Arts pulled the plug after eight months or so.

We do have some rough footage of the original project and presumably the new revival will maintain a similar theme. Disney has been pretty strict on the new Star Wars canon so far, so this new project may also have to go through them to make sure it fits in with the new overarching story and universe.

KitGuru Says: The footage from the cancelled Darth Maul game looked really good so it was a shame to see it canned in the end. However, it looks like EA may be able to revive the project, providing it sees enough interest. Would you like to see the Darth Maul game revived?
