Data miners found a cut chapter from Metal Gear Solid V

Data miners snooping around the Metal Gear Solid V files on the PC have discovered evidence that a third chapter for the game was planned but for some reason was cut from the game. The extra chapter for the game would have been called ‘Peace', apparently this part of the game would have tied up additional plot points and linked in to the original Metal Gear Solid.

The people over at Facepunch did the mining, though do be aware of spoilers. Further evidence that there was content cut from the game resides in the game's collector's edition, which comes with a blu-ray going over the making of the game. Some of the events referenced on that disc never made it to the final product.

Finally, the last big discovery in Metal Gear Solid V's files were textures for ‘The Boss', a character from Metal Gear Solid 3. Currently, we don't know why any of this content was cut from the game, though we do know that cut content is just a reality of game development.

Some fans did have an issue with the ending of Metal Gear Solid V, so it would have been interesting to see if this additional chapter would have helped with that at all. Unfortunately, aside from the fact that it was planned, we don't know anything else about it.

KitGuru Says: It's not uncommon for content to be cut from a game during development. However, I imagine most people will point towards the falling out between Konami and Hideo Kojima as the primary reason for any cut content, it's definitely not a secret that Konami was unhappy with how long Kojima was spending on the game, so maybe pressure from the publisher led to the third chapter being scrapped.

  1. Possibly locked content for future DLC? It sounds like it would’ve been more of a pre-order bonus style content if anything but meh who knows. If it was such a large portion of the game hidden away in files I doubt they would just leave it there to never use (Yes I know developers leave in stuff they’ll never use but in the case of quantity it sounds strange)

  2. I am VERY skeptical that it is for DLC seeing how Konami got rid of the director and is pulling out of triple-a game development all together. There is so much cut content probably because Kojima was planning fot an entire 3rd chapter right from the start, ran out of time and moneu before he could finish it, and Konami wasn’t going to push it ba k again. He left what was done in simply because there was no reason for him to take it out. Hel, maybe 10 years later we will see a restoration project like with Kotor 2.
