G2A responds to League of Legends sponsorship ban

Earlier this week, Riot officially took a stance against the controversial, grey market key selling site G2A. The site was banned from sponsoring any more professional League of Legends teams and its logo was to be immediately removed from any merchandise or marketing material present at the up coming League World Championships event. Now, G2A has responded to its ban and as you would expect, it's not too happy about it.

G2A has a long history of not policing what is on its store. Too often we see people selling stolen game keys, or even League of Legend accounts or level boosting services. When Riot asked the site to stop people from selling accounts or level boosting services, G2A refused, which resulted in it being blacklisted from the League of Legends scene.

Since then, G2A has said that the ban is “heavy handed and potentially damaging”. It also claimed that Riot has launched an “aggressive attack directed towards the entire global e-sports community in a failed attempt to dominate and control the industry.”

“The ban has the ability to impact negatively on e-sporters, especially during this fabulous time when hopes are so high for great e-sports events.”

KitGuru Says: G2A isn't a site I would trust, particularly since it openly knows that dodgy and shady characters are selling on its store and it openly refuses to acknowledge or do anything about it. However, I do understand why some people choose to shop there, after all, local currency conversion prices on games aren't always fair.

There’s nothing to not trust when used sensibly. I treat it like Ebay.
30+ Games every key/gift has worked and none removed from services.

Why would you pay greedy Steam 40-50 quid for a game valued at 20-30.

  2. Same here… Just look at the sellers’ rating and numbers, its too damn easy

Totally. But these companies and their “approved” retailers can’t control the market pricing to keep it at ridiculously high prices for digital content if they don’t act.

  4. Completely agree that riot is trying to control Esports and establish themselves as the esport authority. It won’t work.
G2A is legit. Used them before with 0 problems. If Riot has a problem with instant lvl 30, then put the service up and COMPETE WITH G2A prices. Can’t have it all Riot.

  5. selling lol account and boosting is getting to the real player of lol i have ask that tis stops noobs in diamond why are ter noobs in high tiers tis i why i see a guy/grul lvl 30 know notting from the game tell shes better ten other player PS i know my english is bad

  6. low level and poeple who dont know waht te are doing need to start from the beging
just like every body ells ( noobs in gold diamond and so on )
riot want to get rid of tis and i agree do you want a noob in gold just trolling a round
riot want the best for the players and has been banning tis for some time and yes i know my english is bad but look at some thing the good way not the bad or are you wan of the noob/troll players?

  7. Noob players buying level 30 accounts absolutely hurts the game’s player experience. Who wants to play with people who have no idea what the hell is going on when they’ve been playing the game for more than a year? It’s simply not fair to you to get someone like that on your team, not to mention the sheer amount of knowledge that new player with a bought account would have to learn before being somewhat competent at lvl 30 is astounding.

Account selling creates bad experiences for new and existing players alike.

  8. im def done with Steam. Ill always be looking for cheaper alternatives. but G2A is dodgy. and there is no cover. unless u pay that shield fee. even then friends have waited weeks for support. And I wont ever use it
    GOG is alright

  9. Selling/Buying league of legends accounts is against the terms of service of league of legends. Why should Riot allow a website that actively disobeys its ToS sponsor a team?

  10. I can’t bring myself to try anything there. I have looked at it a few times and just can’t take the risk.

  11. Exactly the same here, so many transactions not one bad code or removed item ever. The last lot of games I bought I paid £45 for (Mad Max, The Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes – the best editions available). On steam these games would have cost me over £100 – that is more than twice the price for the same games.

I must admit I used to buy from Steam alot because I wanted to help support Steam as much as I could, but Steam has now become a joke. Between Greenlight and the slew of really bad indie games flooding the market I never use the store as a purchase platform anymore unless there is an item on serious sale (80/90% off). Untill Steam start vetting some of the complete drivel that is taking up my store front and they allow me to outright block certain tags (Anime/Visual Novel/Nudity etc) I will still continue to purchase elsewhere. I must admit I hope they don’t as I am saving a fortune but I will go back to steam if they change as I gave my word.

  12. I’ve never purchased from G2A but I frequently purchase games from Humble Bundle or Bundle Stars and often get top games for dirt cheap. Is G2A a site where anyone can sell games or in game items?

  13. I personally can’t stand LOL or DOTA or any of the MOBA games but correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t half the fun of playing a game learning its intricacies? I know I’m late to the game but I recently started playing multiplayer BF4 and I get slaughtered constantly. Once in a while I get a couple of kills but even though I suck badly, I’m having a blast learning the game.

  14. Only ever had a problem with G2A once out of quite a few purchases. They corrected my issue in less than an hour. I can’t fault them, last time I tried to get help from Steam or even Origin it took more than 2 days to get everything sorted out.
Never had anything removed and I’ll continue to use them until I do have serious issues. It does sound a bit like Riot are taking a heavy hand but then again I can see why they have an issue and G2A should be more open to removing certain things, like level boosting, accounts etc if its against LOA policy. But then again you wouldn’t catch me playing that game so it doesn’t effect me

  15. When you have open policies that infringe on the ToS of the company from whom the people from that game you are sponsoring…don’t expect to continue working with them when they ask you nicely to stop.

    Don’t be a little b*tch G2A.
