Qualcomm may use 10nm process for Snapdragon 830

It looks like Qualcomm may be moving on to the 10nm manufacturing process for its future flagship system on chip, the Snapdragon 830. Right now, most flagship devices are using the Snapdragon 810, which had a few issues. However, Qualcomm recently unveiled the Snapdragon 820, which aims to be in smartphones next year, following that, we will see the Snapdragon 830 some time in 2017, judging by how things are currently moving.

Rumours surrounding Qualcomm's future chip currently point towards the 10nm process being implemented. More advanced fabrication techniques will create the opportunity for better cooling and higher levels of energy efficiency, meaning more performance per watt. Qualcomm has been swiftly moving up the chain as far as its manufacturing process is concerned.

With the Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm used the 20nm process, while the upcoming Snapdragon 820 uses 14nm. Now keep in mind that any official information on the Snapdragon 830 is still way off, but going off of the current way things have been progressing, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to speculate that Qualcomm will push things further with 10nm for its 2017 flagship chip.

Right now, reports (via: Pocket Now) are also pointing out that the model number for the Snapdragon 830 will likely be the MSM8998, which seems to fit in with the company's current naming scheme.

KitGuru Says: The mobile industry is easily predictable these days. A lot of rumours floating around are largely built on educated guesses that happen to end up becoming fact. These rumours may well pan out, but we are still at least a year away from official confirmation on the Snapdragon 830, so take it all with a grain of salt.

  1. Looking good. The smartphone SoC race has been way more exciting since 2011 than more mdoern desktop CPUs which show marginal gains from an overclocked Sandy Bridge i7.

  3. I m pretty sure that qualcomm will use 10nm for 830 reason is quite simple, samsung going to start mass production on 10nm in H2 2016 , while 820 is coming in dec 2015 or in jan 2016 ,,, qualcomm is not that fool that they will kill their top dog within 5-6 months…….. lol

i m expecting release time for 830 as Q4 2016…. with small changes in cpu arch
