Virgin Media has increased its top broadband speeds in the UK to 200Mbps, in addition to these, the ISP's speed tiers will be changing up. Up until now, Virgin Media has offered broadband in 50Mbps, 100Mbps and 152Mbps packages but going forward, the ISP will be offering broadband at 70Mbps, 150Mbps and 200Mbps speeds.
This does mean that Virgin Media can advertise its lowest fibre optic speeds as being as fast as BT and Sky's top offerings. Right now, BT and Sky both offer top speeds of 76Mbps, while Virgin Media's new top offering more than doubles that.
Virgin Media is pitching its new speeds under the name ‘Vivid', which it is also touting as its next generation fibre optic connection. Those on Virgin Media can opt in to an upgrade from the 1st of October: “Virgin Media is rewarding its existing broadband customers by offering them the chance to upgrade from existing speeds of (up to) 50Mbps, 100Mbps and 152Mbps to more powerful speeds of 70Mbps, Vivid 150Mbps and Vivid 200Mbps”, the press release reads.
Apparently 90 per cent of customers will be able to upgrade to these new speeds by the end of 2015. More details are expected to be announced later on in the week as far as customer upgrades go.

While right now my own personal Virgin Media connection is strong and I usually get top download speeds, I did not get anywhere near top speeds at my old house, so it can be very hit and miss. Are any of you on Virgin Media? How do you find the speed?
always get advertised speed here ( 152mb in cleethorpes ) but then the cables and other infrastructure are only about 15 years old . started out as Diamond Cable then NTL then Virgin
Also have no problem reaching the advertised download speed, (I’m only on lower tier), but I know others on the highest tier who don’t have a problem either. The only criticism I have is that the up cap should be better, I’d suggest 10% of the down cap rather than the 6% I get now!
I don’t have problems hitting good speed up / down (im only on the 50mb) what I do have a problem with is their general network itself. Me along with plenty of others seem to suffer from bad lag throughout the day if gaming on german servers. Before I had no issues with it infact half of my bf4 fave servers were german. Now I can enter a game and be fine for 5 minutes (if that) and end up getting ping rates of 300+ for just a few seconds before it corrects itself. Plenty of complaints on their forums from other users and yet nothing seems to be changing anytime soon. Strangely however not every customer that games on german servers have issues. I gave up trying but ill maybe try again later.
Wonder how much more they’ll add onto bills to go from 50-70 or will it be another one of these ‘free upgrades’
Personally i find virgin absolutely terrible, goes down more than once a week and the stability of the network is terrible, i can guess that their top speed will be 12mb upload, cause that is generally what they do, until they actually stabilise the network, i wont be touching virgin for a LONG time
O well, I guess that they couldn’t double everyone’s BB speeds 🙁 Still, it’s better than a kick in the bollocks!!!
They should stop with the speed increases unless they are gonna offer a decent upload speed…
On the 152mb package its only 12mb upload…
It should be a nice easy 10:1 ratio imho…
150mb down = 15mb up
This is what i was told it would be BY Virgin, the last time they did a speed increase..
completely agree. I have been informed on several occasions when I have called that my upload speed should be higher, only to have an engineer tell me my upload speed is as it should be!

When I first phoned up after hearing about going from 100mb to 152mb, I asked what the upload would be (as on 100mb, I was already on 12mb upload) and they said i’d be on 15mb, but it wouldn’t happen until the last phase of the upgrade…
so I waited, and waited, and it never happened…
If you signed up to the top package at that time (152mb) you were given 15mbps upload (as a new customer) – so why weren’t those who were upgraded??
Edit: I do have stability issues though, i’m on about the 4th “Super Hub” in two years, my connection can be fine for a week, then spends 4 days cutting out randomly for 2 minutes here and there, then it’s fine again for another couple of weeks until it does it again…
