Fallout 4 is exactly two weeks away from launch and since the game has already gone gold, meaning initial development has wrapped up and the game is ready to ship, Bethesda is now ready to talk about its pre-loading plans for PC and consoles. In short, Bethesda is joining the growing list of publishers to support pre-loading, meaning you will be able to download an encrypted version of Fallout 4 before its launch on the 10th of November.
Once 12:01 AM hits on that date, the game files will unlock and you will be able to jump straight in. However, the exact date pre-loading starts has yet to be determined, according to Bethesda's Pete Hines.
If you buy the physical copy of Fallout 4 on PC, you won't have all of the game files and the game will need to be activated on Steam. This way, nobody will accidentally get their way in to the game early and the entire game won't leak on to the internet prior to launch. As far as file sizes go, Fallout 4 will sit between 28GB and 35GB depending on platform, so it won't take up too much space.

KitGuru Says: Given the huge file sizes of games these days, coupled with the fact download speeds aren't always the greatest depending on where you live, it is good to see more game publishers supporting pre-loading. Have any of you pre-ordered Fallout 4? Which platform are you planning on playing on?
The problem I see is that if you paid for a collectors edition or the like, you have to wait for your physical copy to arrive (probably on launch day) before you can start to download. Preorder was £100 in the UK, and for all that money GAME can’t send me the CD key in an email so I can preload? I know it isn’t up to them per say, but why hasn’t this been done yet?
Yeah, not sure how that’ll be done on XBOne and PS4.. maybe anyone can “pre-download” onto consoles, and it’s just not playable without the disk?
2015 no pre-order year 😉
But i will get a copy of the game after the first review hits the net, and only if the review is good 🙂
Cause the keys are sealed in the packaging?
I know, but why couldn’t they give us a key for downloading early that doesn’t access the game. It wouldn’t even be hard to do
On A side note that will annoy people Greenman Gaming gave out the keys for the game and season passes today.
