AMD Radeon R9 380x confirmed, will feature 4GB VRAM and 256-bit Bus

The AMD R9 380x has been confirmed thanks to an early posting on the PowerColour website, showing that the upcoming graphics card will appear on the consumer market within the next few weeks. The graphics card is listed on the AIB's home page, and we know that the R9 380x will feature an ‘Antigua XT' GPU, which is a tweaked version of the previously known Tonga XT chip.

According to other leaks, the R9 380x will feature a TDP of around 200 to 220 watts, along with 2048 stream processors, 128 texture mapping units and 32 ROPS, according to a Wccftech report.

The card will have a 4GB 256-bit Bus interface, it will also feature fully compliant Vulkan and DirectX 12 support, which will be good news to those looking to take advantage of the latest APIs.

Unfortunately right now we don't have an exact price point to talk about but we can expect another contender in the budget GPU market in time for Christmas. AMD is also rumoured to be launching a brand new special edition driver, much like last year's Omega launch, so keep an eye out for more information on that.

KitGuru Says: It looks like AMD has another GPU launch up its sleeve before the end of the year. Are any of you thinking of upgrading before Christmas? What card are you leaning towards right now?

  1. I’m planning to by a 390 without X. Hope the price will be cheaper in the end of the year though.

  2. I like my 290x, you shan’t be displeased with the 390.

  3. I’ve been waiting for the 380x (and think that should have been the 380, whereas the current 380 should’ve been the 370, which would have made the whole 300 line Freesync compatible) but depending on the price, I may just get a 390 instead. If there’s not much of a price difference, why not get that extra power + 8gb of ram?

  5. Make it $250 CAD and i’ll buy.

  6. Working on a Intel Rig to complement my AMD. So most likely looking at a decent NVIDIA single card. Already happy with dual 290X in my AMD Rig.

  7. I’m probably going to get a 380X, I was planning on a 380, but this is even better.

  8. AMD Carrizo news:

    THROTTLING.

4 cores + good iGPU and all that under 15W at 28 nm?
You get heavy throttling and mediocre performance
