Refunds offered for Batman: Arkham Knight PC until 2016

It almost feels at this point that Batman: Arkham Knight on the PC is never going to be ‘fixed' to the standard that it was supposed to be released at earlier this year. Not only was it suspended from sale and everyone involved in the more successful console versions brought back to fix up the shoddy PC port, but following its re-release it's still got a number of issues. Perhaps seeing the writing on the wall, Warner has now announced everyone can have a refund if they want it.

This is a refund though that goes beyond the usual two week, two hour restrictions placed on Steam games. Warner is offering a refund to anyone who ordered or pre-ordered Batman: Arkham Knight on PC, regardless of how long they've played it for and they can do so throughout the rest of the year too.

That should be comforting to those that expect it to be purchased for them for Christmas by a well-meaning relative.

“We are very sorry that many our customers continue to be unhappy with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. We worked hard to get the game to live up to the standard you deserve, but understand that many of you are still experiencing issues,” reads the announcement post on the Steam forums (via Kotaku).

It also goes on to say that for those that don't receive a refund – like all the people who didn't buy the game through Steam – that the developers will continue to discuss ongoing efforts to fix the game and perhaps more worryingly, the issues that it says “we cannot fix.”

Perhaps that it more the reason that near-indefinate refunds are being offered, in-case anyone buys it in the future and feels the need to be refunded for their ill-choice.

KitGuru Says: This is perhaps worse than any of the news that's gone before. It was a poor show to deliver such a shoddy port in the first place, but to wait five months only to tell people that there are problems with the game that cannot be fixed feels pretty unsavoury. PC players deserve better.

  2. I find it hard to believe there are problems that can’t be fixed, even if they have to do something drastic like rebuild it in a different engine. I’d happily wait another year for a brand new version that runs properly.

  3. The writing should have been seen on the wall when the Batmobile issue happened and WB was all like “nope” only a few days out.

  4. They would obviously not spent so much time and money to fix a game, at least on PC (the very large majority of sales come from consoles).

  5. WoW, Warner already didn’t had a good reputation for their PC games optimisation and release state, but now, you can be sure most of PC gamers will wait to see how well/bad it works before buying anything else.

  6. where i go to refund my batman akham knight?

  7. That’s why I thought just porting it to a different engine, start from scratch almost (although they still have all the assets). Rather than searching through endless lines of code which I’d think would be a bigger expense. I mean you see people single handedly porting games to different engines just as curiosity projects.
I’m no expert though and your right that they would treat console customers with more love. But the last I heard sales Of PC games were on a par with the Xbone and PS4.

  8. If it’s a Steam copy just request a refund, it might take a couple days though. If its a retail copy your luck will be hit and miss depending on the retailer and if you bought from a reseller like kinguin I don’t think they will do a refund.

  9. At least they offer refunds. It still sucks big time, but your money back is better than a shitty game.

  10. I have a hard time believing that, but since I don’t have the numbers for this specific title, I will restrain myself from refuting.

  11. I think it was 2-3 months ago it said it in the news and I believe it was Ubisoft who had made the claim. Perhaps it’s different for EA and the others.

  12. I doubt Ubisoft would comment on Bathman PC sales since this is not one of their game.

After searching for half an hour, the only sales number I found was global sales in somes countries (like UK),but never did I found the PC part of these numbers.

Since PC sales usually are between 10-20% of global sales based on annual report from the big companies, I will keep doubting (not that you care about what I think ;p)

  13. No they weren’t commenting on batman sales, it was just pc games in general… probably from their own catalogue, i’m sure they said that sales on PC were somewhere between PS4 & Xbone sales.

  14. My bad (I misunderstood your post)
Indeed, Ubisoft last quaterly report (july to september sales) pointed out that PC sales represented 23% of their total sales. Although the global console sales still represents 63%, the highest platform (which was PS4 in this case) were “only” up to 27%.

But I think, the figures will be more “normal” on the yearly report, because there was no big title released during the previous quarter. With Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and Just Dance release on this quater, the console sales should once again left the PC sales in the dirt.

  15. Interesting sadly consoles are still leading in sales then. Don’t know where you dug the figures up from but good work !

  16. Ubisoft’s quaterly and yearly reports are available freely on their website (but those figures were also discussed on a lot of economic and videogame websites).
