Fortnite and FIFA 23 were the most played PlayStation games in 2023

With 2023 now officially behind us, Sony has published an interesting post detailing a full breakdown of the most popular games from the past 365 days. Perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, Fortnite and FIFA 23 managed to take the top spots across most countries – followed closely by Call of Duty.

Making the announcement on their website, Sony offered a breakdown for some of 2023’s biggest games, saying: “Boasting a breathtaking line-up of games, innovative new peripherals and a range of other amazing treats, 2023 was not just a great year on PlayStation – it was sensational!”

The full breakdown of of the top 3 most played games by country can be found HERE, but the results for some of the biggest markets can be seen below:

Japan

  1. Apex Legends
  2. Genshin Impact
  3. Fortnite

United Kingdom

  1. Fortnite
  2. EA SPORTS FIFA 23
  3. Call of Duty

USA

  1. Fortnite
  2. Call of Duty
  3. Grand Theft Auto V

Across most of the included regions, Fortnite managed to take the top spot. Being a free-to-play title, this does not come as a big surprise, especially as 2023 ended up being one of the biggest years for Fortnite since the game’s inception.

What is perhaps a little more surprising is the near-universal success of FIFA 23. Despite being a premium priced game, the football title managed to land in the top 3 across 19 of the 24 listed markets with the only outliers being Japan, South Korea, Canada, The US and New Zealand. The full breakdown of games by region can be found HERE.
