Ubisoft reportedly thwarted a cyberattack this week

Insomniac and Rockstar Games have both recently suffered from major data breaches, with confidential files being stolen and leaked online. It turns out Ubisoft was also recently targeted, although the company's security team were able to thwart efforts to steal data.

As reported by Bleeping Computer, Ubisoft's systems were compromised on the 20th of December and an unauthorised individual had access to files for around 48 hours and attempted to steal around 900GB of the company's data. However, Ubisoft's IT team noticed some oddities and were able to revoke the hacker's access.

During their time in the system, the ‘threat actor' spent time checking over user access rights, as well as monitoring Microsoft Teams and SharePoint. Specifically, they appeared to be targeting data related to Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft is currently investigating the incident to figure out how the unknown individual gained access and whether or not any data was stolen. For now, it appears that the attempt was unsuccessful.

While data breaches resulting in leaked information often make headlines, it is uncommon to hear about unsuccessful attempts. In the case of Ubisoft, the company demonstrated heightened security measures during the holiday season, effectively safeguarding its systems from potential harm.
