Monster Hunter Worlds sees huge rise in player count

While Monster Hunter World has remained popular on Steam, its peak player counts over the last few years have been considerably lower compared to launch, right up to late 2020. The game is having a bit of a resurgeance at the moment though, hitting close to 150,000 peak concurrent players.

Monster Hunter World first released on PC in August 2018, peaking at over 330,000 concurrent players during its launch month. This dropped to under 100K peaks by December 2018, before resurging again in 2020, with hundreds of thousands of monthly players through most of the year. Since 2021, the game has generally peaked at less than 50,000 concurrent players per month.

Alongside the Steam Winter Sale, there has been a significant boost in active PC players, with a 175% gain in December 2023, with peak concurrent player counts shooting up to just shy of 130,000. This trend has carried strong into January, with the game peaking at over 144,000 concurrent players according to SteamDB.

Capcom has been working on a next-gen Monster Hunter game to follow up Monster Hunter World for quite some time. Monster Hunter Wilds was revealed at The Game Awards and will be releasing in 2025.
