Fallout 4 has been subjected to an insanely high level of hype over the course of this year. Right now, Bethesda's latest RPG has had one of the highest concurrent player counts on Steam since its launch too, so it's not too surprising to hear that over twelve million copies of the game shipped on day one across the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
This represents “sales in excess of $750 million”, so Fallout 4 has definitely done well so far. According to Bethesda, Fallout 4 on launch day was selling more than any other game released this year at certain retailers.
Those 12 million copies shipped were to retailers, so we don't know exactly how many copies have been bought by gamers, but Bethesda is “now shipping more Fallout 4 units to retailers to meet ongoing demand”, so we can safely assume that a lot of people are picking the game up.
Bethesda's retail partners have also confirmed that the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition was the fastest selling collector's edition of a game ever. However, keep in mind that we don't know which retailers are making these claims, so it doesn't really paint the full picture.

KitGuru Says: I don't think there was any doubt that Fallout 4 would sell well, it is a huge franchise after all and Bethesda is a hugely popular publisher. Have any of you checked out Fallout 4 yet? What do you think of it so far?
Waiting on my Zotac 970 Ti to get here so I can massacre some radroaches
970 Ti?? Do you mean 980 Ti? I played 12 hours of the game, and honestly it’s exactly fallout 3 graphics or worse with what I would call mods. The stories are more or less pointless as I finish a story get called a hero and then they still don’t like me and say I should just leave cause I’m a stranger… Like the whole point of getting immersed is the depth and realness of the game. It lacks unfortunately both, it does have one good thing. The traits system is a massive improvement, but I’m still plagued with the ever present bugs from FO3… Falling through the ground and getting quick saved before death is never appreciated…
If I had to rate the game I’d give it a 4/10. I’m glad I had steam share so I didn’t have to pay for it to try it, because if I had pre-ordered I wouldn’t have been able to get a refund, because the real game doesn’t start till after 3-4 hours. I will buy the game for probably $10 including all DLC and probably end up getting all the proper mods that will make the game shine as it should have… but not today…
I knew the hype was going to be just that. If you’re a die hard fan for whatever unknown reason, then enjoy cause you’re probably too blinded by the fad or belief that it’s good because critics and such said it was good. As far as I’m concerned there’s two types of people. Those who like solid progress and modern fidelity and those stuck in the past looking for same thing.

So we can guarantee Bethesda will continue to release poorly optimised and buggy games. Great…..
Yeap, agreed, completely unplayable pile of trash that barely reaches 60fps at it’s heaviest moments and only reaches +100fps 50% of the time with all settings set to max
mine has yet to ship from +GameStop . the word is wont receive it until around the 24th… as a huge fallout fan, im very disappointed.. ebay sellers got their’s on time, not the real fans
And don’t forget that even years after release they will still be buggy as hell. I love Skyrim, but seriously, this game still has major problems.
Indeed, I did mean to type 980, not 970. Thanks. Sucks to read that review though. Hope I can enjoy it more.
