As part of Sony’s pivot to adapting its many original video game IPs into other mediums, we have seen the likes of HBO’s The Last of Us, an Uncharted film, and the Gran Turismo movie come to fruition. Despite these massive properties, perhaps the most surprising success comes from Peacock’s Twisted Metal TV show. After becoming the service’s most binged comedy to date, it has now been confirmed that a second season is in the works.
Taking to the stage to announce The Game Award for ‘best ongoing game’ Twisted Metal star Anthony Mackie also revealed that the show is coming back for a second season, saying:
“Because of our incredible fans, Twisted Metal is coming back for season two on Peacock – so everybody get your motor revving cuz you’re going on another ride with John Doe.”
Following a less-than-promising marketing reveal, Twisted Metal went on to become a sleeper hit of video game adaptations following its launch on the 27th of July – seeing an impressive audience score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
With Twisted Metal having now justified itself among the many increasing number of video game adaptations, it will be interesting to see where the show ends up going for season 2.
