Baldur’s Gate 3 wins Game of the Year 2023

When Larian first announced Baldur's Gate 3, we all thought it looked impressive but there was no predicting the level of success the final release would see. The game went on to become one of the highest-rated games of the year and now, Larian has capped things off by winning the GOTY award at the TGAs.

The Game Awards took place last night, with the coveted GOTY Award being delivered as the last major award of the show. Based on votes from a jury of 200 games media outlets, alongside millions of public fan votes, Baldur's Gate 3 won Game of the Year 2023.

Alongside this, Baldur's Gate 3 has now also launched on Xbox, so Larian has achieved its goal of getting the game out on PC, as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles before the end of the year.

While games like Alan Wake II and Spider-Man 2 were in the running for the GOTY award at The Game Awards this year, in my mind, there were only two potential winners here – Baldur's Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Both launched this year to high critical acclaim and both have a 96 overall score on Metacritic, ranking them amongst the best-rated titles of all time.

KitGuru Says: This is a huge win for Larian, which we tend to forget is a smaller independent studio, getting its break with Kickstarter and crowd-funding efforts. They've truly evolved the CRPG genre with BG3 and I think this opens the door for more games like this in the future to reach a huge audience.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
