Star Wars: Battlefront is now out in the wild and while it didn't quite meet expectations, this does free up DICE to begin working on other exciting projects. While part of the studio will be working on season pass content for Battlefront, some of the core developers have already moved on to a new project- the next Battlefield, which will likely launch in October/November in 2016.
In a post on Twitter, DICE developer, Dan Vaderlind confirmed that the next Battlefield is on the way: “Now that we've shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield”, his tweet reads.
Star Wars Battlefront is more of an arcade-style, casual shooter, so it will be nice to see DICE return to Battlefield, which has more of a skill element involved in play, along with a much heavier team focus, with squad set ups and commanders.
EA essentially confirmed that Battlefield 5 would be a thing last year, stating that the new entry to the series from DICE will move away from the cops and robbers theme of Battlefield: Hardline. A holiday 2016 release date is also being targeted, which makes sense as EA likes to try and take on Call of Duty each year.
KitGuru Says: I only very recently started getting in to Battlefield properly with a group of friends, so I'm excited to see what DICE does with the next instalment. Are any of you still playing Battlefield 4 or Hardline?
wish it is bf 2143
wish battlefront was actually good…
Yep and i bet its going to be another bad battlefield game just like the last 2 that took them 2 years trying to fix a mistake
yea well I make $150 an hour doing IT work which means I put in a honest days work and don’t have to go online and try to scam people like this bot is and the fake company that made it. I guess I could give everyone a early christmas present and rip this fake company a new butt hole and send it into a black hole…lol
It (SW Battlefront) is good. Not great, but good. It’s a decent, albeit mindless arcade type shooter. No it’s not very deep and doesn’t prob have a lot of longevity, but my mates and I have been having a blast with it and I’m a BF2/3/4 veteran. Just take it for what it is and have fun. If you have a decent rig, it has some of the best graphics I’ve ever seen. Stunning graphics really.
yes, its got arcade shooting like the original battlefront games. i’d have nothing against that if they’d actually left the other better parts of battlefront in.
they took out space battles. it wasn’t an amazing feature, but it added a unique feel that this game completely lacks. there was something special about spawning in your star destroyer, snatching up the closest fighter or bomber, and cruising over to the enemy either bombing their ship, killing their fighters, or invading their ships. in place of space battles they have asymmetrical fights where one side gets vehicles and the other side gets ****’d by said vehicles; and flying vehicles are worthless for anything besides fighting other jets.
they took out bots. yeah, they weren’t great, but the bots in battlefront gave the game an almost dota feeling and added far more units to the battlefield which made it feel more alive.
they took out galactic conquest, admittedly a weak attempt at a campaign mode but far better then the current nothing provided. at least it added variety that the current game lacks, unless you enjoy playing the same maps over and over again.
and what did they add? better graphics? sure, but at the expense of a fully fleshed out game? and hell, the one thing dice is really good at, gun play, they completely skimped on. now you’ve got a game that relies pretty much completely on luck over skill (unless you’re a veteran fighting a new player, in that case you just do more damage and take less).
the game is soulless, its a shell of what it should be. its obvious dice wasn’t the right company to work on it, because they just don’t care about it.
