There is quite a bit of money to be made in streaming, but throughout the year plenty of Twitch streamers host charity events in order to raise money for good causes and this year, a substantial amount was raised, with the Twitch community generating over $17 million for charities.
Twitch revealed the figure in a new blog post, which noted that while the company itself managed to raise $42,000 through sales of its holiday shirt, the community at large managed to raise quite a bit more, with over $17.4 million made in donations for charities like Extra Life and St Jude.
“Up from 12 in 2014, there were 25 individual fundraisers that raised over $50,000 each, and more than 60 that raised over $1,000. Our top five events combined raised over $13 million of this year’s total”.
