The Samsung Galaxy S7 could be arriving sooner than expected, with some rumours pointing towards a February announcement date, so it is not too surprising that we are also starting to see more specification leaks. According to a new report from the high-profile leaker, Evan Blass/EVLeaks, the Galaxy S7 will bring back the microSD card slot, have improved water resistance and also include larger batteries.
There will be two devices announced by Samsung in the next few months, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, both of which will likely look very similar to the S6 models, according to Blass's report on VentureBeat. As far as screen size goes, the regular S7 should feature a 5.1-inch display while the Edge will feature a larger 5.7-inch variant. Both displays will once again feature Super AMOLED technology as well as a 2560×1440 resolution.
Internally, we can expect to see the return of the microSD card slot, a feature loved by many Android phone users as it allows them to gain extra space without paying a premium for 64GB devices. On top of that, we can expect a bigger battery this year, which should be good news to many, apparently the regular Galaxy S7 will feature a 3000mAh battery while the S7 Edge will feature a 3600mAh variant. Both will feature wireless charging, which will take around two hours to hit a full charge.
According to the report, Samsung will once again opt for its own processor, this time being the Exynos 8 8890, which will feature four high-performance cores running at 2.3 GHz and another four power-saving cores running at 1.6 GHz. There will also be 4GB of RAM to help with multitasking duties. Overall, it's a lot of information to take in, but EVLeaks has proven reliable in the past, so I wouldn't be too surprised to see all of this end up in the final product.
KitGuru Says: Samsung's Galaxy smartphones are always decent enough but it has been a while since end-users have been truly blown away or excited by a smartphone. Are any of you currently running a Samsung smartphone? Are you planning on upgrading this year?
