Homefront: The Revolution gets a release date and trailer

Homefront: The Revolution had a somewhat rocky period in its development at Crytek but the project was swiftly put back on track and is now set to release in just a few months time. Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios today announced that the Homefront sequel will be launching on the 20th of May this year on the PC, Xbox One and PS4.

On top of that, a new trailer was released, which gives us a peek at some more gameplay.

Homefront: The Revolution is set in an alternate timeline where the US is taken over by the Greater Korean Republic. This game will put players in an open-world version of Philadelphia where you will have to scavenge around and try to take back the city.

The game was originally in development at Crytek Studios but reports seemed to suggest that the project was facing financial difficulties. In the end, publisher Deep Silver took the team and formed Dambuster Studios to finish up the project.

KitGuru Says: Homefront: The Revolution is taking an interesting turn from the original game and could inject new life into the franchise. Are any of you looking forward to Homefront: The Revolution?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. There’s some things that bugged me from the trailer is the animations.

For instance, near the end (1:45), there’s that slow motion explosion. The explosion happens, it hits the guy, his health probably hit 0 and then transitioned into a death animation which has him falling totally wrong with him losing all momentum, turning and falling 90 degrees to the right, while the guy further away starts flying up like an angel.

When you see videos of people who are hit or sent flying while trying to do something, you’ll notice that they often are sent flying and _then_ react to it. (depending on how quickly it happens). Rocks/concrete appear above the explosion the frame it is created, despite it being a metal undamaged floor, and the concrete wall which is already half metal is on the right side, not in the middle or left side. The fire from the explosion didn’t really burn out into fire, it just sort of… got bigger and then turned brown/grey, so I can’t tell if it’s a grenade explosion (looks dusty and doesn’t really smoke/burn) or a fuel-based explosion (large, smoke and burning, colourful). On top of that, the explosion appears in mid-air rather than on the ground, which look a lot like mines or detonators of some kind, and explodes out in a boring ball.

The shockwave (sound barrier) effect is really cool though… except it starts far away from the center of the explosion, and then somehow moves at the same rate as the expansion.

Now, if someone has taken the time to look at this, you may wonder why I’m so hard on this, and the answer is simple: Crytek. These are supposed to be the guys who are ahead of the curve, with state of the art graphics, physics, and game logic. It looks like a new CoD clone.

It honestly amazes me how many things that are wrong with that one particular clip of 4-5 seconds which is supposed to be the last thing we see to get us excited about it.
