Microsoft planning two new flagship Windows Phones

The Mobile World Congress is coming up next month so we will get a good look at plenty of new smartphones for release this year. However, that doesn't mean things won't leak beforehand, as is the case here with reports claiming that Microsoft is currently planning two new flagship smartphones to help boost Windows 10 on mobile.

It seems like Microsoft could be planning a Lumia 850, which will replace the current 830, as well as a Lumia 750 which will replace the older 730.

Nokia Lumia 850

We know of the Lumia 850 thanks to filings in China dating back a few months but this week, as Business Insider points out,  a regulatory filing for the Lumia 750 leaked as well. Apparently the Lumia 850 will feature a 5.7-inch display running at 1080p, it will have a Qualcomm CPU as well as 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately, no specifications for the Lumia 750 have leaked as of yet.

We do know what the device might look like though, thanks to a leaked image from Evleaks/Evan Blass from last month.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft is making a bigger push for Windows smartphones this year with the launch of Windows 10. It will be interesting to see exactly what it has come up with towards the end of next month when MWC kicks off. Do any of you have a Windows Phone? Are you running Windows 10 on it yet?

  1. MS really need to give people a good reason to buy one of their phones and be in their eco system. But as far as I can tell it doesn’t offer much over Android or crucially even iOS. Having a nice screen and a good camera just isn’t enough when the competition also have that.
So to answer the question directly, no I don’t.

  2. Basically, it’s about the phone and not the OS at the moment. If the phone that has the specs I want runs Windows, I might consider it. But like you say, the OS itself doesn’t offer much reason to switch. But then, you could also argue the other way. What are the reasons to go with iOS or Android?

  4. Apps is the reason to go with iOS or Android and is the main reason I switched from WP to Android. The essentials are just about there but even those are basic versions. All of my slightly more niche apps like the NFL app or TheScore eSports app are not available on WP.
