Microsoft is recalling Surface Pro power cables

Microsoft has announced that it is issuing a recall for Surface Pro power cables due to an overheating fault found in a certain number older models. Microsoft has received several reports of overheating and will soon put out instructions on how to check if you are affected and how to send your cable back and get a replacement.

This issue doesn't seem to affect the newer Surface Pro  4 but rather, older versions of the tablet. In a statement sent out to press, Microsoft said: “As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord. We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable”.

This recall does apply worldwide and new power cords will be given out for free to those who purchased a Surface device before March 2015. Microsoft hasn't gone live with a recall website just yet but information will be made available this week, according to a Microsoft spokesperson.

KitGuru Says: Apparently only a small number of units are affected by this recall but Microsoft has yet to release full details via its website. We will update once Microsoft's recall site goes live.
