Overclockers manage to push Core i7-6700K over 7GHz

Two overclockers, Der8auer and Dancop have managed to achieve the fastest Skylake frequency on record, using an Asus ROG Maximus VIII Gene motherboard to push an Intel Core i7-6700K past the 7GHz barrier. The exact frequency achieved was 7007.85MHz, which sets a new record for overclocks using Intel's latest Skylake chips.

This was spotted over on the CPU-Z validator, the listing also shows off everything else used in the system, including 8GB of G.Skill DDR4 RAM and a copy of Windows XP. This overclock was achieved using one of the four cores enabled, with the multiplier cranked up 69x and the base clock frequency set to 101.56MHz.

At first, the pair of overclockers managed to push the Core i7 6700K to 4.8Ghz using air cooling put managed to push it much higher with LN2. You can see the results for yourself, HERE.

KitGuru Says: That's a pretty massive overclock. Do any of you guys like to play around with overclocking? What's the highest frequency you've achieved?

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.

  1. Not really played around with my 6700k too much but I’ve got it sitting at that comfortable 4.6GHz area right now with no problem

  2. Unless you have every core enabled I wouldn’t class chips like these as overclocks

  3. 7007.85 MHz ?

  4. I’ve got 4.5GHz at 1.25v and Level 5 LLC in the ROG Asus Maximum Hero VIII. I can get 4.8Ghz on 1.40v, probably do slightly better with tweaks, but cannot for the life in me get adaptive or offset voltages to POST for either OC, so I run 4.5GHz for my daily, as I prefer the temps and voltage being so low.

AMD still have World record according to Guinness, 8-cores at 8,429Ghz and that was 2011.

  8. If quoting something from 2011, check that it’s still valid: http://hwbot.org/submission/2615355_the_stilt_cpu_frequency_fx_8370_8722.78_mhz
Yes, it’s AMD, but the number’s different. Just my $0.02.

  9. 4.05 GHz on a 3740QM CPU in a Dell Latitude e6430 laptop. Beats out 6820HQ skylake in firestrike physics.

  10. JOHN ANDRES GARAY BRAVO

It is fake!!! 7 ghz on windows xp with 32 bits!!!

I agree but here is my $0.02 then for you, since 8,722Ghz was beaten by 8,794,33Ghz (also AMD)
