Netflix has begun its assault on proxies and VPNs

A couple of weeks back, Netflix formally announced for the first time that it would be actively going after and blocking proxy/VPN services in an effort to stop users getting passed region blocks on content and now, we are starting to see the results of that. Over in Australia, a proxy service known as uFlix has already begun to feel the sting as some users are already reporting being unable to access Netflix.

uFlix allows users to change their IP address as well as DNS settings to get passed region barriers on content. According to users currently unable to access Netflix, they have now begun receiving the message: “You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again”.

It is not known how many people this issue is affected right now but it does signify the roll out of Netflix's new proxy blocking system.  uFlix addressed the problem with its customers directly and admitted that it expects the number of users affected to grow.

While this specific instance affects Australia, we will likely see more countries affected in the coming days and weeks as well.
